The January 2026 newsletter highlights how strategic internal investments are strengthening the UC Davis School of Medicine’s research enterprise, with a focus on the Cultivating Team Science (CTS) Award program. Now in its sixth year, CTS has helped translate early‑stage, collaborative ideas into high‑impact research, generating more than $32 million in external funding and over 50 publications from an initial $2 million investment. The issue also announces the latest School of Medicine Research Image Competition winners, features the long‑standing impact of the Grants Facilitation Unit in supporting major Clinical and Translational Science Center grant renewals, and spotlights new leadership and research excellence in the Department of Cell Biology and Human Anatomy, including advances in vision science, neuroscience, stem cell biology, and regenerative medicine.

The April issue of the newsletter highlights the central role of the basic sciences in advancing health at UC Davis. All six basic sciences departments ranked among the top 20 nationally in National Institutes of Health funding, underscoring the strength and impact of the basic sciences to the university's research enterprise. The issue also features the basic science department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, showcasing research that underpins emerging therapies and advances in biomedical science. In addition, the newsletter highlights the work of the Evaluation team, which partners with research programs to strengthen outcomes, measure impact, and support strategic decision‑making across the research enterprise.
